Information Sheet on Fitting/Putting up Wall Panelling

In the days before damp proof courses, (and today if you don’t have a DPC), damp will rise to a height of about a metre before it stops. Wall panelling was originally used to cover this.
We assume you are panelling up to about dado height, the room is “normal” size and there is a door, window and chimney breast. The panelling itself comprises vertical tongue and groove boards about 100 mm wide with a moulding on the top and a new skirting all round. The original skirt will be removed as the work proceeds.
