I’m assuming you have some form of architraving around the door at the moment and you want to improve on it, so go to a timber yard, choose the design you want, then get the builder to collect and fit it.

It’s a pretty quick job and providing you have chosen a design of architrave which is in sympathy with the age of your property, the result can transform a room out of all proportion to the cost.

Removing the existing stuff can be the tricky bit. If he’s too slapdash, he will rip any wallpaper which may be stuck to it, make sure he slices all round with a sharp knife before he rushes in with his jemmy!
