A Price Guide and Information Sheet on Replacing/Fitting Skirting Boards

information
I’m trying to work out why you don’t have any at the moment! I suppose some arse could have ripped them out in the seventies and now you’re looking at some horrid little 3” high strip of “modern” varnished rubbish.

If this is the case you’re lucky but if you want to replace “proper” skirting boards with something better, there will be a problem. When you rip them off the wall, it’s likely that areas of
plaster will follow them. This will have to be made good and not many carpenters can plaster! If you’ve got nasty little 70’s skirtings, the plaster will have come off the first time, so it should be ok.

When you choose the new skirting boards, try and get a design which is in keeping with the house’s age, most
timber yards will have about half a dozen mouldings to choose from.
