Average Labour Cost/Price to Change, Replace or Fit a Thermocouple (Plumbers & Gas Fitter day rates)

To clarify the following prices it is recommended that you read the article in the INFORMATION box below the PRICES…

(These prices are based on a tradesman’s rate of £150.00 per day and a labourer if required at £100.00 per day. This includes the cost of buying and collecting any materials, dumping any waste if necessary and any incidental materials they will need. The minimum price will usually be for a half day)

How Much Does It Cost To Replace a Thermocouple?

thermocouple

A thermocouple’s job is to tell the boiler if the pilot light blows out. If it does, the
boiler then shuts off the gas supply to the pilot light, thus preventing what would be in effect a gas leak.

The first you know about this is when your boiler isn’t firing because the pilot light has blown out! So you light it again and all is well.

A problem arises when the thermocouple itself eventually “goes”. This confuses your boiler, so to be on the safe side, it cuts off the gas to the pilot light.

Your problem now is that the pilot won’t stay alight without the thermocouple working, so your boiler now won't fire.

Thermocouples are also found in boilers without pilot lights. Here they monitor temperature in just the same way and when they “go”. The boiler stops.

Price

Luckily, they are cheap to buy, easy to fit and largely interchangeable, so if he has the right one with him, a plumber will take less than half an hour to fit it and will probably charge you, including the new part about
……..£60.00

A Price Guide and Information Sheet on Information Sheet on Testing and Inspecting Electrics

information
Unless work is being undertaken on your electrical installation, there is no legal requirement to ever have your electrics tested. However the NICEIC which is the electrical contracting industry’s independent voluntary body, suggests we inspect and test our system every ten years and of course even if we knew this, the suggestion would still be almost universally ignored.

Faulty electrics will kill you faster than any other household “problem”, so lets get them checked……..well tomorrow will do won’t it!

Obviously not, if you are reading this, you have just become a “Let’s do it today person”!

This article is intended to be short, the subject isn’t, so at this point we recommend you read our comprehensive article on electrics, particularly the page on testing which you can see by clicking
