Cost to Fit a Kitchen

job
Description
labour
1Find a man you can trust and let him quote by the day. Then, if he charges about £275 for himself and his bloke give them the job.
By the way, a “normal” kitchen, in a “normal” house, should take 3/4 days to fit including a bit of electrics and tiling above the work surfaces.
£900-£1200

There’s no way we can quote for the costof the kitchen etc.
 £??
“Labour” at £175 a day (tradesman) £100 (labourer), includes incidental fixings etc. and tipping. “Materials” if mentioned, are larger things (a boiler) and stuff only you can choose (tiles etc).  Also VAT must be added all round.

Variables

Builders don’t usually like to fit a kitchen for a fixed price. There are too many problems to overcome, including the possibility that the householder may change her mind half way through about the design or budget. Also units may not arrive on time or they may be damaged. That may mean extra trips to the merchants or return trips 2 weeks later when things eventually arrive from Lithuania.

If the installer gives you a fixed price (and he has any financial sense), he will have included an amount for these unforeseen contingencies. This amount will be substantial!

A lot of lads will only work on a day rate and if you are around when the job’s being done you will probably see that contrary to what you believed would happen, he actually turns up on time, doesn’t spend all day on his phone and work steadily and dilligently till the jobs done!

Questions that your installer should ask you

– Who is disposing of the old kitchen?
– How many base units are there?
– How many wall units are there?
– Does it all come assembled or do I have to build everything?
– Are there pelmets?
– What about pelmet lighting?
– Are there cornices?
– How many work surfaces are there?
– What are they made of?
– Are there built in fridges or dishwashers?
– Will you want me to do any tiling?
– Would you like more electrical sockets?
– If a door (or whatever) doesn’t arrive with everything else, will you want me to come back and fit it later ?

You see…you don’t know the answers to half these questions yet. How can we quote for them?
