Job 1
You want to fit a light in the garage, you have electricity in the form of a wall socket in there but lights can’t be supplied from “the mains”, there’s too much power involved (13 amps) and the new lighting cables could set on fire, so we need to “fuse down” (to 5 amps) by fitting a fused spur.

It’s the same with
central heating electrics. These too require far less power, so a fused spur is fitted to “fuse down” here as well. (to 3 amps).

The spur is usually surface mounted adjacent to an existing wall socket with a bit if white trunking covering the cable. The whole process takes about an hour and the materials cost about £10.

If he charges half a day, that’s a bit steep but quite possible (buying, travelling, parking,) So the most you can expect is
…….£110.00

Job 2
If you want it all set in the wall (not surface mounted) then he will have to organise a plasterer and the sparks will have to turn up twice. He will view this as a nuisance and charge accordingly, so let’s call it……£185.00
