Average Labour Cost/Price to Paint a Front Door

To clarify the following prices it is recommended that you read the article in the INFORMATION box below the PRICES…

(These prices are based on a tradesman’s rate of £150.00 per day and a labourer if required at £100.00 per day. This includes the cost of buying and collecting any materials, dumping any waste if necessary and any incidental materials they will need. The minimum price will usually be for a half day)

How Much Does it Cost To Paint a Front Door?

Job 1 (Doing it traditionally)
Lets assume it’s a new door that’s just been hung. You want it painted so it must be softwood, therefore it’s full of knots. All the furniture is in place because it was fitted last week.

So with the paint, let’s call it……..£250.00

Job 2
The same job with water based paints, which dry in an hour………….£180.00

Job 3
To repaint your existing door with a rub down, an undercoat (water-based)and a gloss. He will have to remove all furniture and replace it while the paint is tacky. You will need to keep the door open and on a chain for as long as you dare that night!

He will remove all the door furniture, sand it down and apply some “knotting”. Then he will apply oil based primer and go away. Next day he will return and apply a coat of oil based undercoat. Next day he will return and apply a coat of gloss. Next day he will return and replace all the furniture. All this will have taken him about a day but you will now know him like brother. Unlike a brother however, he will charge a premium for all the travelling and organising.
